Recipe: Farmer's Market Philly Cheesesteak

Updated: Mar 8, 2021

This is a go-to classic for any time of the year. You can make it spicy or mild depending on your preferences. We use sirloin tip steaks but flank, flat iron, ribeye, or your favorite steak would work well.

Chef Notes: Typically, if we use the Spicy Cheese Bread buns then we use Provolone cheese, whereas if we have a plain bun we use a spicy cheese for an added kick!

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Season steak with all of the spices to taste.

  2. Grill steak on very hot grill for ~3-4 minutes/side (rare to medium rare) and let rest on a plate ~7-10 minutes tented under tinfoil. It will continue to get done while resting, and you will be broiling it so don’t overcook!

  3. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a sauté pan on Medium heat. Sauté onions & peppers until soft. Season with salt & pepper.

  4. Preheat Broiler in oven.

  5. Build your sandwich with two rolls sliced & open faced on a broil pan or cookie sheet. Put a slice of cheese on each side of the bun. Slice the steak thin against the grain. We prefer to cut it again so that it’s in bite sized pieces. Place steak on each roll along with some of the peppers & onions.

  6. Place under broiler on top rack for 1-2 minutes until cheese is melted and bun is toasted.

  7. Enjoy!
